For a small fee you can obtain copies of filed documents and accounts from Companies House. Very useful for reviewing a competitors/suppliers/customers or partners position. www.hmrc.gov.uk The HM Revenue & Customs website. Contains a large number of their helpsheets and booklets in a downloadable format. Unfortunately the site is very large and it can often be difficult to find exactly what you are looking for. Also remember that in their booklets the Revenue generally will only tell you their side of things. They will very rarely point out tax planning matters and it can often be useful to obtain confirmation of tax matters from your accountant. This site now covers VAT and Excise Duty as well. www.icaew.co.uk The website of our professional body. This site is regularly updated, contains details of current developments in the accounting and taxation world, advice on how to become a Chartered Accountant and an online copy of the Member's Handbook (effectively our code of conduct) amongst other things. www.fsa.gov.uk The Financial Services Authority website - the uk's pensions and investments regulatory body. www.berr.gov.uk The website for the Department of Trade & Industry. Contains information for business including details on grants. www.opsi.gov.uk Her Majesty's Stationery Office. Various useful booklets and so forth available from this site.
